New Model Legislation on Corporatization of Health Care, Consolidation, and Closures

Consolidation across the health care market, whether among hospitals, other providers, health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, etc., is resulting in increased prices and costs and decreased transparency across all markets. States are seeking to understand an increasingly complicated and intertwined health care market to protect consumers, support businesses and employers in their states, and maintain their purchasing power.

With guidance, insight, and feedback from state officials, NASHP recently developed comprehensive model legislation to address corporatization of health care, consolidation, and closures across the health care market. This legislation includes increased oversight of health market transactions (including private equity investments), ownership transparency, closure notifications, corporate practice of medicine provisions to protect practitioner autonomy, and more.

This webinar offers an opportunity to learn more about this model legislation and its anticipated effects. Speakers will discuss the evolving health care market, how state priorities guided development of this legislation, the details of included legislative provisions, and how states can use and adapt some or all the provisions within this model. This model legislation can support states in their efforts to address high health care costs while ensuring access to affordable, high-quality health care for all residents.
