The COVID-19 pandemic brought the unique and invaluable roles played by state and local health departments to the forefront, as well as opportunities to advance public health goals in a sustainable way through new partnerships with the broader health system. NASHP works with state leaders to apply lessons from the pandemic to modernize public health and leverage and build on links to the health system in the service of common public health goals.
