The National Academy for State Health Policy’s (NASHP) Hospital Cost Tool (HCT) has just been updated to include an additional year of data for more than 4,500 hospitals. With data from 2011 through 2024, state officials, hospital leaders, researchers, health care purchasers, and others can observe cost trends that could help inform state affordability efforts.
The tool uses Medicare Cost Report data, which is submitted annually by hospitals to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), to share individual facilities’ utilization, cost and charges, and more. Using national standard accounting methodology, NASHP leverages the data to calculate a variety of cost metrics requested by state leaders to improve their understanding of hospital profits and losses, facilities’ payer mix, labor costs and more.
To learn more about the tool join NASHP’s upcoming webinar that will provide a live demonstration, as well as highlight the recent updates that help streamline the information for users. There will be time for questions and answers with NASHP’s leading expert on hospital finances.
The HCT and this webinar is supported by a grant from Arnold Ventures.
