Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs
The population of children and youth with chronic illness, behavioral and special health care needs, and medical complexities continues to rise. Children with chronic and complex needs typically require specialized care, prescription medications, medical technology and equipment, and increased care coordination, and often have unmet health care needs attributable to challenges in accessing care.
NASHP supports states to improve health outcomes, address quality, and advance equitable systems of care for children with chronic and complex needs and their families. Our work includes a focus on system standards and standards for high-quality care coordination, health care delivery (e.g., Medicaid managed care), behavioral health, integrated care delivery systems, school-based health services, public insurance financing, and quality measurement.
