For the first time, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved a Medicaid state plan amendment (SPA) to establish palliative care services provided in non-hospital settings as a Medicaid covered service. Community palliative care is specialized medical care for people living with a serious illness, focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of the illness, and provided in non-hospital and community settings across the continuum of care. By adding community palliative care as a preventive service in its Medicaid state plan, Hawaii is the first state to be able to comprehensively cover these palliative care services for its Medicaid beneficiaries. Join this webinar to learn from those who lead this important work in Hawaii and the plans for implementation.
