Projections for When States Will Exhaust Federal CHIP Funding
States are closely tracking their CHIP budgets as they wait for action regarding the future of federal funding for the program. Using data provided by the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC), NASHP reached out to all states in March 2015 to collect their most up-to-date projections and compiled the information in a table. All but one state would exhaust federal funding during federal fiscal year (FFY) 2016; notably, ten states would exhaust federal funds in the first quarter of FFY2016. Because state funding projections can fluctuate, NASHP will continue to track this data and update this table as long as federal CHIP funding remains uncertain beyond FFY2015.
