The North Carolina Healthcare Quality Alliance: Lessons in Aligning Quality Improvement Strategies Statewide

North Carolina’s model for primary care redesign, improvement, and infrastructure support has a proven track record of success. A crucial part of this model is coordination of initiatives through the North Carolina Healthcare Quality Alliance (NCHQA), a non-profit organization comprised of private and public partners across North Carolina’s health system. This brief describes NCHQA’s origin and creation, its membership, original goals and initiatives, and offers key lessons for states interested in pursuing transformative partnerships to support primary care.
