State policymakers recognize the importance of oral health for overall health. In challenging economic times, what policy options can states consider to increase access to oral health services? In this session, speakers from three states, including New Hampshire and Utah, discuss their innovative coverage, payment, service delivery, or provider efforts to increase oral health care access — often in coordination with medical care. Specific approaches include adding Medicaid dental benefits for adults with substance use disorder and designing value-based payment for children’s preventive oral health services under Medicaid.
